Organize Your Stuff
Written by Jim Worthington on January 28, 2019
All of the commercials tell us that the New Year is the time to get organized. It’s also the time to get in shape but that’s a topic for someone else’s blog. Here are some tips for getting organized.
- Review your estate plan if you haven’t done so recently. Here’s some guidance on how often to do it.
- Store your will, trust, power of attorney, and health care directive in a safe place. If you have a fire-resistant safe, that’s a good place. A safe deposit box is good but can be difficult for the appointed person to access.
- Make sure the persons you have named in your estate planning documents know how to get into the safe or safe deposit box. For example, let them know the combination or where you keep the key.
- Set a reminder to do this every year when you start gathering your tax records.By the way, tax filing season starts on January 28, 2019, and will take place even if we have another shutdown.
